What is the greatest golf shot you've ever seen? Tell us about your choice. And the golfer who hit that shot doesn't have to be someone famous. Maybe you witnessed a spectacular shot at your home course. Most (we assume) will nominate a shot seen on television or in person at a professional event. The choice is yours.

Double eagle

My daughter took up golf last year at age 18. We were golfing a short par 5 the other day and she hit a great drive about 210 yards whhich left her about 130 to the hole. She looked at me and said what do you think i should hit? I said 8 iron so she promptly took her nine a and buried the shot for a double eagle..

Double eagle

On a 450 yard par 5 my friend hit his second shot from 190 yards from the rough, with a 7-iron and holed out for albatross. It was awesome.

Witnessed a double eagle

I was standing on the 14th tee box at Marine Drive golf club in Vancouver, waiting to play. Looking back down the 13th fairway, I saw a guy I knew by the name of Pete Skinner about to hit his 2nd shot into the par 5. The hole was a shortish 5, but with a 3 tiered green (from right to left), bunker in front, OB left, and the pin this day was back left. He hit a long iron with a slight draw that ran up the green from right to left, held up in the back fringe for a second, then rolled slowly and surely down to the cup and fell in as my friend and I cheered it on. My friend's brother had decided to water the bushes, and missed the whole thing. Helluva shot.

SEVE

Wentworth 17th hole, long par 5 second shot at World Matchplay in 1970s. I was five feet from the ball which Seve hit so cleanly and with such force and timing with a two iron that to this day, I can still feel and hear the zip as he made perfect contact with the ball. Tremendous.

Nicklaus at Pebble

Jack Nicklaus' 1-iron to the 17th green at Pebble Beach in the final round of the 1972 US Open. Carved it into the wind, ball hit the flagstick. With a 1-iron! What a long-iron player Nicklaus was, always doing amazing stuff.

The hole in one at the Skins Game, I do not remember the year. Fantastic shot. (Note from editor: It was 1987.)

Harrington 5 wood 17th Birkdale Open 08

I was standing about 15 yards behind Padraig Harrington for this shot on the par 5 17th. Harrington was 271 yeards from the flag. It was a huge risk as he was one ahead of the field. He looked so relaxed, he chatted quickly to the caddie, limited practice swing and stood up and launched a majestic three wood at what looked like the grandstand. The ball faded over the lefthand bunker and ran up to 7 feet which he holed for eagle. Sam Torrance called it the greatest glof shot he ever saw and I can't help but agree.

Hole in one at Gardner Ross

We were playing at Gardner Ross Golf Club, South Africa. This is the only Ernie Els signature course in our province and notorious for swallowing your ball if it strays off the fairway. It was raining lightly and the wind was irritating to say the least (It kept swirling and was never from a constant direction). A colleague of mine, who is a left hander, pulled out his 5 iron. Par 3, 193m with 2 bunkers on the right of the green and a slope that will send the ball careening off the green if you don’t hit the center of the green, this is no easy hole. He hit the ball slightly to the right of the green, it pitched between the bunker and the green rolled onto the green in a wide right to left arc, hit the pin and went in the hole!! His first ace ever and the first one I’ve witnessed firsthand. Awesome!!

Nicklaus, 86 Masters

The eagle putt that Jack Nicklaus made on the 15th hole of the final round of the 1986 Masters. Very difficult putt, his read was different from his caddie, the moment was electric, it was the greatest ever.
