why would he even try this?

State qualifier tournement. two coaches watching player hit his tee shot onpar 5 left into rough. chips into fairway. then hits ball into right rough. hits ball into red stakes. takes a drop hitting 6. hits ball short of green chips on and two putts for a 9. kid's partner asks him if he scored a 7 and he says no i got an 8. while on the green the kid moved his ball closer to the hole by marking it in front of the ball then placing the ball in front of the mark with a 30 foot putt coming up. this was completely obvious. why would this kid think he could get away with it with so many people watching him?

Revealing character

They say golf doesn't build character, it reveals it. This example is tiny compared to the other posts, but here goes. Guy marks his ball by putting the dime in front of the ball. When he replaces the ball, he puts it down in front of the marker. What kind of person will cheat to get the advantage of the width of a dime?

game has gone to the dogs, and birds

Our local course has a problem with wild geese, resultiing in the purchase of some Australian shepherd dogs, like they do at airports, to help deter the geese from hanging out on the course. It hasn't worked, and I don't know if it is from lack of training of the animals, or that they are just not interested. One day on a 375 yd par 4 , my playing partner hit a great drive, about 340 yards right down the middle. It was still rolling and one of the dogs chased it and picked it up on the roll. Yelling at the dog, we startled it into dropping it.. about 6 feet from the hole. My partner insisted that he could putt it from where it was dropped, as it had not stopped rolling when the dog picked it up. He made the putt, but I don't think it was a legal eagle. foot note: When I asked the golf advisors board if I could remove the geese droppings from my line on the putting greens, I was it was allowed only if I used my ungloved hand.

Missing chipper

Playing in a monthly medal competition at my local golf club with the club captain and his friend. I use a chipper to great effect - much to thier annoyance. On the 5th my chipper suddenly vanishes from my bag and I could tell by the look on thier guilty faces that something was wrong. Six holes later the course comes back round to where my chipper dissapeared and I catch the captain red handed trying to slip the chipper back in my bag... Turns out he'd thrown it into a shallow brook while I wasn't looking!

Cheating partner

In a fourball betterball my playing partner hit his tee shot into a raised bank with deep rough covering it. We both looked for his ball for a couple of minutes before I found it. It was so deep in the rough that I told him it was unplayable as he would injure himself if he tried to play it. I walk back down to the fairway not looking back and he hits a beautiful 6 iron as clean as a whistle landing about 6 feet from the hole. We came second in the comp but I was so annoyed that I told the club pro and we were DQ'd. I'm waiting for him to show up and have a go at me but it's been 3 weeks now and he hasn't shown his face.

Hole IN One

Played with a group of people I had never met before. On a par three almost straight uphill, one guy who seemingly hit the green couldn't find his ball. Dropped another and took the penalty, when the hole was over there was an extra ball in the hole, one of the guys tried to pocket it. I loudly asked about it, turned out the guy had hit an Ace and would never have known. Imagine taking that away from someone.

What do ya know

I was playing in a regular match from home and there was a par 3 across the water, one guy hits it legitimately on the green, I admittedly hit in the water on a shank, and last guy ends up on the slope, obviously plugged on the side, (knowing this by sound and seeing no bounce ) I was unfamiliar with the course so the guy that hit the green showed me where to drop and we had our backs turned, I chip on and we get up to the green, there were three balls on the green, we ask "did you play already" response "no" well apparently the ball just jumped up out of the dirt and 2 feet from the hole.

20 strokes better?

I played in a tournament the other day. My friend shot 75 and thought he had it in the bag. Some guy that was paired with guys that shot in the hundreds and hasn't broke 90 all year comes in and says he shot 74. Only thing Ihad to say to the guy was can't cheat 20 strokes at a time maybe cheat like 4 a tournament or people that have any common sense can figure out what you did. He got the point.

10-foot gimmes

I play with a regular foursome and we all keep score and we noticed that I was playing better than 2 of my friends but they ended up with lower scores. One day me and my buddy played with them and we counted their strokes. We played 9 holes and one person didn't account for 14 strokes and the other didn't account for 22 strokes. I shot 48 he shot 61 and the other shot 72.

Worlds Biggest Cheater

I was on the green in 2, on a par 5. 3 putts, and I score a par, which was somewhat comical within our foursome. One member of our group, a notorious cheater, scored himself a birdie 4, and said something about.."fairways and greens"... here is a run down of his "birdie". First shot skulled off to the left, into the driving range... gone. Tee up again..."it's not a mullie...it's a re-start". Second shot, 175 yd left side rough, about 12 feet off fairway in grass about 8-9 inches high. Pick up ball, move about 2 feet toward fairway, and place ball on a firm tuft of grass, with about 90% of ball showing above the grass. "Second?" shot.... 135 yards downrange, but just off fairway on right side, in 8 inch grass. Pick up ball, and PLACE it in a grass free patch 2 feet away. "Third?" shot.... 130 yds and on the green, about 16 feet to the hole. He uses a long chin-height putter. He lays the putter down on his line of putt.... and places his ball up against the shaft to align. 1 putt birdie

Committee Ruling?

In a recent event two committee members playing in a matchplay competition halved a match through losing the 18th, one player lost his ball. After shaking hands on the half they stopped to talk to friends beside the 18th green when one pointed out a ball within the sprinkler head. One of the committee members then claimed the ball to be his, refused to accept the already agreed half and played the ball after taking a drop, only to win the whole with a birdie and thus the match.

tattle on a cheat

Used to play with someone who used to prefer lie or prefer to lie about everything. Took part in the local tournament and I was drawn to play with him. I watched him so closely that I neglected my own game. Anyway next tournament I didnt watch him somebody else did, the person watching also gave up on his own game. Next tournament nobody watched him and we all had blinders. Wierd.

sandbagger

Played with a guy three days in a row, he shot 72, 73, 74. Guy was a reputed sandbagger. Checked his handicap and the scores were posted as 82, 83, 84. Not a cheater, this dude is a liar.

tee up

I played with this guy who hits his driver about 200 yards, then goes on the fairway and when he thinks no one is looking he tees up his ball and hits his driver to the green.

Nice Counting

Golf with a friend's father-in-law. After the three of us are all in the fairway and worst score on the 1st hole is a bogey, father-in-law asks if we want a little $6 nassau. I say sure. Two holes later, par 5 uphill, into the wind. I go OB left, reload and drive my 3rd down the left of the fairway. Rock a hybrid to chiping range (4), chip on (5) and sink a putt to save bogey (6). Father-in-law hits his first into the water (1). Drops (2) and shanks (3). Then hits to the 150 stake (4) chunks his approach (5) chips deep (6) then chips on (7) and we give him the putt (8). He's keeping score at this point. Two holes later, I figure Father-in-Law and I are close. I lean my head into the cart to see his scorecard. He listed me for a 7 on the par 5 and himself a 6. So rather than me gaining two strokes on his on that hole, I lose a stroke?? I nicely told him that I was out of the Nassau. He looked confused and asked why and I explained to him that I don't bet with people who can't count.
