From the article: Ball Markers: Do the Rules Specify What Should - or Shouldn't - Be Used?
Golf ball markers are often a coin or a small, round object manufactured specifically for the job of marking the ball on the green. Sometimes, golfers carry markers they consider lucky. Sometimes, a golf ball marker might be personalized, customized in some way. And sometimes, a golf ball marker might hold special meaning to the golfer - a reminder of a favorite course or destination, a coin with a meaningful date, etc.
Do you have a golf ball marker you consider lucky or meaningful or special in some way? Tell us what you use, and why it's special to you. Give Your Answer
WW2 steel penny
- I use a steel penny I found looking through my grandfather's war chest, it was in the case with his purple heart, he put it in there for a reason and now I use it, he taught me to golf so it's like he is there when I putt.

- I was given a US Marine Corp. Challenge coin by the Dana Point 5th Marine Support Group. I guess it helps me conquer the challenge that is golf!

cheapie
- I once bought a handful of cheap fluorescent markers at my local driving range for a nickel a piece. Now they are everywhere in my golf bag and I can always find one. Also, they press really flat so they don't tend to affect the roll of anyone else's ball.

Pick a winner
- Most of the folks I play with use coins to mark, but I never carry change in my pockets on the course because the jingling drives me crazy. The first time I got caught out without a marker, I dug around in my pockets and came up with a guitar pick, and it worked perfectly. They're so small and thin that I usually forget to take them out of my pockets, go through the wash just fine, and because they're triangular, you can use them to point the direction to your ball if you have to mark off-line. Now I even buy green ones that aren't distracting to my golfing buddies.

special ball marker
- I used to use a particular ball marker but stopped because I didn't want to be tied to a specific one in case it got lost. I now carry 3 or 4 and use what comes out of the bag.
