Share Your Story: My Best Golf Shot Ever

From oneeyedgolfer

The Situation I Was In

It was Labor Day and the Club Championship was being played. The players were on the 2nd tee (their 20th hole). I was on the 8th tee and pushed my drive over the 3rd green into the 2nd fairway. By the time I got there, the two players were walking down the fairway toward their ball and they had to pass my ball.

The Shot I Pulled Off

There was a huge crowd following them, some in carts, most walking, but all of them curious how I could've missed the 8th fairway by that much. Once everyone got passed me, they stopped, turned around and told me to hit first. The 8th green was about 185 yards away and had to carry over some trees. I forget the club I used, but I remember telling myself to stay down (a tip that rarely works) and as soon as I hit it I did not think it was high enough. I remember screaming (to myself), "please just over the trees".

I immediately jumped in a cart and flew toward my three waiting friends. I didn't see a ball, so I assumed it was in the rough or one of the bunkers. When I asked where it was, they told me they never saw, it must have stayed in the trees. No big deal, let's play #9. It was then they told me my ball had hit just in front of the green and rolled in for a two.

More people asked me about my eagle than the poor guy who won the club championship. But, his name is on the CC Board and mine never will be. Oh, well...

Tips and Tricks

  • Keep your head down. (Not)
  • Keep the ball in your fairway...
