What is the instructional focus of this product?

This DVD series shows us the science behind the swing and golf instruction. PGA Tour Productions takes you behind the scenes to show you how science has influenced professional golf over the last few decades.

My Review

The golf swing has been studied, examined, dissected, compared, tested and thoroughly investigated throughout the years to the point it could even be called a "science." In fact, PGA Tour Productions have produced a 3-disc DVD series called Science of Golf that places the golf swing under the microscope.

Science of Golf examines the modern state of golf and how technology has made an impact of all facets of the game. Disc 1 covers the "Power Game," showing us how equipment, the modern swing and instruction have enabled players to bomb drives 300-plus yards. Disc 2 is about "Modern Teaching and Fitness." Famed teachers Butch Harmon, David Leadbetter and Hank Haney all weigh in on how video technology has changed the way golf is taught. They also talk about how fitness has completely infiltrated the modern tour and has elevated the game to what it is today.

The final disc features the "Short Game and Course Design." Short game guru Dave Pelz details the importance of short game skills among tour players and how modern equipment and technology has also helped this aspect of the game as well. This segment also documents the latest in golf course design and the importance that strategy plays in the game.

The DVD is more a documentary about the game of golf rather than an instructional series. The series is beautifully shot featuring 3D animation, super slow motion footage from the PGA Tour and interviews from top tour players, golf teachers and fitness experts. Golf geeks, techies and junkies will love the detailed analysis, but the average golfer may be overwhelmed with all the information.

The series may not make you a better golfer, but it will give you a greater appreciation of how the game has changed in our lifetimes.
