I purchased this club used, and in great condition, on Ebay at the end of 2010. I finally played a complete round with it in January 2011, after very little practice on the driving range between the time of purchase and play.
I cannot begin to tell you what an excellent golf club the R7 Limited is. First off, it is visually a jewel with the red Ozix shaft (regular Flex) extending out to the black triangular (soft cornered) head shape.
Secondly, this club feels light, yet perfectly balanced. The club does not fight you in any way and playing the ball with a fade or draw, or going out straight is totally up to you and your current abilities.
Of course, this club is equipped with the Taylormade patented MWT (Moveable Weight Technology) which I chose to leave in the neutral setting. My biggest problem is a slice, and during the front nine I hit a few. Yet, by the back nine I was hitting long, and drawing the ball very well, which was what I needed to do.
To give you an example of how quickly I found comfort and power with the R7 let me relay a comment from one of the players I was with. We were playing the 16th par five dog-leg left. He had the honors and nailed a beauty that curved left over water and landed in the fairway over 250 yards away. The other two players missed on slices. I came up last and hit a nearly identical shot to the first guy.
When we reached the location of where the balls had landed my partner said "hold on there young man, I think your ball is back there about 20 yards." Please note, this guy was younger than me and stood about 6'4", I come in at about 5' 8 1/2". Okay, so I came up shorter than he did: or did I?
As I began search for my ball some forty feet shorter than his ball I heard him call out to me. He had found my ball less than 10 feet from his (side to side) and about 1 foot shorter.
At this point I can honestly say this is the best driver I have ever played. I have owned the Taylormade 540 and 2007 Burner and there is simply no comparison. The R7 is a history maker and you might be lucky enough to find a good one used out there for under $100.00 easy. Unless you are at the peak of your game and want the R9 SuperTri or the new R11, there is no need to spend the money. The R7 Limited is everything and more you could want from a club.
I am going to do a full review comparing all three Taylormade drivers on my website: www.thegolfwit.com. Please come by and take a look.
