Men's Sample Olympic Golf Tournament Field

By

The following sample field is based on the Official World Golf Rankings of July 29, 2012 (view those rankings in .pdf file), applying the IGF's proposed format and selection criteria.

The 60 golfers listed represent 33 countries. The highest-ranked is No. 1, naturally (remember: Top 15 automatically qualify) and the lowest ranked is outside the Top 300.

Numbers in front of players' names are their ranking in the July 29, 2012, world rankings. First, the 60 players are listed from highest to lowest ranking; and below that, golfers are listed by country.

*McIlroy and McDowell are from Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. Northern Ireland athletes have the option to represent the Great Britain team or the Ireland team. I'm listing McIlroy and McDowell here as part of a Great Britain team because if both chose to represent Ireland, that would knock Padraig Harrington out of the Olympics. Of course, by 2016 considerations might be very different, and we won't know which team the Northern Ireland golfers choose to represent until then. It could also be a moot point if Northern Ireland golfers fall far in the rankings.
