Here's how the fan involvement will work:
- Fans of each team sign up at the PTGL Web site, www.ptgl.com, to become what the league is calling a "ProCoach." (This requires a subscription fee.)
- ProCoaches use diagnostic tools available on the PTGL Web site to study their team members' statistics, tendencies, strengths and weaknesses on the course. The ProCoaches then vote on such things as which team members should be paired together for the team formats and what order the players should go out in singles. In this way, the "ProCoaches" actually effect the outcome of their teams' matches - because pairings and order of play will be based on ProCoaches' recommendations.
- ProCoaches also take part in fantasy sports-style competitions amongst themselves, based on who is making the best decisions and predictions for their respective teams. Weekly and seasonal prizes will be available to the best-performing ProCoaches.
But the league is focused on starting play in 2007. In addition to recruiting players, the league is also looking for team owners, ProCoaches and anyone else interested in being involved or helping things get started.
And as stated above, a "preview" of the PTGL format - for both golfers and for "ProCoaches" - is the USA vs. Canada match taking place in December of this year. Fans can register now to get involved in this showcase event.
Interested parties should visit the Professional Team Golf League Web site at www.ptgl.com. Keep watch on the News section for new announcements or check out the FAQ section for more info. There are also FAQs for golfers interested in playing in the league and others, including potential team owners, who want to get involved.
