By the 15th hole, Rocco Mediate had taken a 1-stroke lead over Tiger Woods in the 2008 U.S. Open. And it looked like, perhaps, one of the larger upsets in U.S. Open history was brewing.

But on the 18th hole Woods had an eagle putt that would have won him the playoff and the tournament. He had the putt tracking perfectly, but it stopped just short of the hole, dropping Woods to his knees in frustration.

But Woods wound up with a birdie on the hole, and Mediate bogied. That sent the 18-hole playoff into sudden-death overtime, and the players continued.
