Allegations of a Tiger Woods affair first surfaced in an article in the National Enquirer, an American tabloid of dubious reputation (but which did, however, break the Sen. John Edwards cheating scandal), in late November 2009. The rumors were given a boost in visibility by Woods' early morning car crash a couple days later.
Additional allegations that Woods cheated on wife Elin Nordegren later surfaced, including one in Us Magazine accompanied by a recording of a suggestive voicemail left by Woods. On Dec. 2, 2009, Woods issued a statement on his Web site indirectly confessing to marital infidelity.
