More About Kelly Murray:
A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, his resume also includes two victories on the Canadian Tour (1982, 1984) and he shares that tour's record for lowest score in one round, 60. He has won over 100 long drive competitions. While on the Canadian Tour, he studied and was coached by Moe Norman.
Kelly competed in the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament 17 times but was never able to qualify to play the Tour full time. He spent the bulk of his prime years playing the Asian Tour, which is where he met his wife Rumi.
Growing up in Vancouver, he played baseball, golf and hockey. After playing small college golf and hockey, the Canadian headed to San Jose State University. An eligibility issue cut his stay at San Jose State to one year. That year the team was a top-five program and he cracked the starting group.
Kelly currently works as a long drive instructor and writes for a District of Columbia-area golf magazine. His 9-year-old son named Sean is already a black belt in Tae Kwan Do.
