The teams were fairly even through the first two days of foursomes and fourballs, all square at 4-4 following Day 1, and the USA leading 9-7 after Day 2.
But in the two, 8-game singles sessions (a total of 16 matches) on the final day, the Americans claimed 10.5 of the 16 available points.
"Champagne" Tony Lema led Team USA with a 5-1-0 record. (Lema died less than a year later in a plane crash.) Johnny Pott did not play for Team USA after hurting his back following arrival in England.
Peter Alliss was the star for Great Britain, compiling a 5-1-0 record, including singles victories over Billy Casper and Ken Venturi.
