Team USA 19, International 15:
The U.S. took a 4-2 lead after Day 1 foursomes despite a record-tying loss by the team of Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker. Woods/Stricker was thrashed by the team of Adam Scott and K.J. Choi, 7 and 6, tying the worst loss in any Presidents Cup match to this point in the competition's history.
The teams split six fourball matches on Day 2. Then, in the opening session of Day 3, the U.S. earned a 4-1 foursomes advantage, pushing its overall lead to 11-6 at that point. That 5-point advantage was too much for the Internationals to overcome, although they did have a 1-point edge from that point until the conclusion of play.
The Internationals needed a record-setting rally in singles to forge a tie or win, and the first four Day 4 singles matches did go to Team International. But the rally stalled after that, and the teams wound up splitting the singles session, 6-6.
Jim Furyk was the big winner individually, going 5-0-0 for Team USA. The leaders for Team International were Charl Schwartzel and Geoff Ogilvy, both at 3-1-1. The four captains' picks (two for each side) did not fare well. Woods was the best of them at 2-3-0, including a singles victory; but combined, Woods, Bill Haas, Aaron Baddeley and Robert Allenby were only 4-12-2.
