As at the 2000 Solheim Cup, the margin of victory was three points, but in 2002 the American side won to take the Cup back from Team Europe.
The teams ended Day 1 even. Team USA took a 7-5 lead after the morning session of Day 2, but Europe went 4-0 in the afternoon fourballs to lead 9-7 heading into the Sunday singles.
Cristie Kerr made her Solheim Cup debut here, but magaged only a 1-3-0 record. That was still better than Kelli Kuehne, however, who went 0-4-0 for the American side. Carin Koch, on the other hand, was 4-0-1 for Europe.
The 2002 Solheim Cup was the last one played in an even-numbered year. The competition switched to odd-number years beginning with the 2003 Solheim Cup in order to avoid conflict with the Ryder Cup.
