About the PGA Tour Shell Houston Open:
D.A. Points shot a final-round 66 to earn the one-stroke victory over runners-up Henrik Stenson and Billy Horschel. The win earned Points a spot in the 2013 Masters field. Stenson's second-place finish was also good enough to boost him into the Top 50 in the world rankings and a spot in the Masters.
2012 Shell Houston Open
Hunter Mahan posted his second win of the season, edging Carl Pettersson by one stroke. Mahan and Pettersson both closed with 71s, but third-round leader Louis Oosthuizen struggled to a 75 and fell to third place. It was Mahan's fourth career PGA Tour victory.

PGA Tour Shell Houston Open Trivia and Notes:
- When Stuart Appleby won in 2006, he became the first wire-to-wire winner in the Houston Open's history.
- Appleby's six-shot victory also matched the tournament record for largest margin of victory, previously set by Vijay Singh (2002) and Jack Burke Jr. (1952).
- Curtis Strange and Vijay Singh share the tournament record for most wins with three each. Strange won the Houston Open in 1980, 1986 and 1988; and Singh in 2002, 2004, 2005.
- Roberto De Vicenzo's win at the 1968 Houston Open came just three weeks after his infamous mistake at The Masters, where he signed an incorrect scorecard and the penalty cost him a spot in a playoff.
- Speaking of playoffs, there have been more at the Houston Open than at any other event on the PGA Tour schedule save for the U.S. Open.
- The Houston Open debuted in 1946 as the "Tournament of Champions." Texans Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan finished 1-2, with Nelson winning by two strokes.
- The 1981 Houston Open was won by Ron Streck, who thereby became the first golfer to win a PGA Tour event while carrying a metalwood.
