About the PGA Tour Doral Open:

"Doral Open" is a catch-all name for a defunct PGA Tour event played at Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Doral, Fla., from 1962 through 2006. The tournament was known by several official names during that time period (see past results below), but to players and fans, it was often more simply known as "The Doral."

In 2007, this tournament was replaced on the schedule by the Cadillac Championship, a World Golf Championships event, when the CA Championship switched from rotating courses to a permanent home at Doral.

While the WGC tournament took over the Doral Open's slot on the schedule, and the same golf course, it is not considered a continuation of the Doral. The CA Championship was a pre-existing tournament that continued at Doral Resort. The Doral Open ceased to exist.

PGA Tour Doral Open Golf Courses:

The Doral Open, from its inception through is final playing, was played on the same course: The Blue Course of Doral Country Club, part of Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Doral, Fla.

The Blue Course is nicknamed "The Blue Monster" because it was considered, when the Doral Open debuted in the early 1960s, to be a very long and difficult course.

PGA Tour Doral Open Records:

  • Overall record: 264, Tiger Woods, 2005
  • Tournament course record: 61, Stephen Ames, 2000

PGA Tour Doral Open Trivia and Notes:

  • Raymond Floyd (1980-81) and Tiger Woods (2005-2006) are the only back-to-back winners of the Doral Open.Three-time winners were Andy Bean (1977, 1982, 1986), Floyd (1980, 1981, 1992) and Greg Norman (1990, 1993, 1996).
  • Jack Nicklaus won the Doral twice (1972, 1975), but also finished second five times (1964, 1976, 1978, 1980, 1984).
  • Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson had one of their rare head-to-head duels in 2005 at Doral. Playing together in the final group, the lead changed hands a couple times before Woods eked out a 1-stroke win.
