Augusta Restaurants

From Melissa C. Stöppler, M.D., About Stress Management Guide

Where to Eat When You're in Town for The Masters

Restaurants in Augusta, Ga., are, as you'd expect, generally full during Masters Week, especially the more popular places.

If you love a fine dining experience, try to book a table at La Maison on Telfair (404 Telfair St. downtown), where you'll also find an excellent wine and tapas bar. Closer to Augusta National is the popular French-inspired restaurant Bistro 491 (491B Highland Ave.), located just behind the Surrey Center shopping area. Calvert's in Surrey Center is also an excellent choice.

Pizza lovers should try the Mellow Mushroom downtown (1167 Broad St.) for hand-tossed pies and an outstanding beer selection. Those staying farther out in the suburbs should head for the Upper Crust in Evans (300 Towne Center Dr., Evans) which was voted Best Pizza in Augusta.

A local favorite is Rae's Coastal Cafe at 3208 W. Wimbledon Dr., offering Caribbean-influenced dishes in a casual setting.

As with hotels, the major restaurant chains are all present in Augusta, many scattered right along Washington Road just a few miles from Augusta National. You can find Outback Steakhouse, Red Lobster, Chili's, Carraba's Italian Grill, Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesday's, Applebee's, O'Charley's, and Macaroni Grill, among others.
