Suggested ReadingWomen's Western OpenThe men's Western Open is the oldest golf tournament on the PGA Tour schedule outside of the U.S. Open. Beginning in 1930, the Western Open also hosted a women's tournament, and it was the biggest women's tournament in the world for the early part of its existence (at least until the U.S. Women's Open arrived). The women's Western Open was played yearly until 1967, when it was discontinued. Although the LPGA Tour did not begin play until 1950, all Western Opens played - including those prior to 1950 - are today recognized as major championships by the LPGA.
