The Titleholders Championship, considered a major by the LPGA, was first played in 1937 and last played in 1972, with a couple of interruptions along the way. The tournament was not played from 1943-45 due to World War II. It ceased play following the 1966 tournament but came back for one last hurrah in 1972.
Although the LPGA did not being play until 1950, it recognizes all Titleholders tournaments - even those played prior to 1950 - as LPGA majors. Therefore, all winners of the Titleholders are credited with major championship victories (which is particularly good for Patty Berg, who won the Titleholders seven times).

The Titleholders was played at Augusta Country Club (next door to Augusta National) each year with the exception of the final event in 1972.
