du Maurier Classic

By Brent Kelley, About.com

The du Maurier Classic was first held in 1979 and was considered one of the LPGA Tour's major championships from 1979 through 2000. The tournament was discontinued following the 2000 event, and in 2001 was replaced as an LPGA major by the Women's British Open. Winners of the du Maurier during its time on the LPGA schedule are credited with a major championship victory.
The du Maurier was played in Canada each year. From 1979 through 1983, it was known as the Peter Jackson Classic.
