The British Open golf tournament (whose actual title is The Open Championship) is one of the four major championships of men's golf. It is played annually in July.

The 2015 Open will be the 29th time the Open Championship has been played at St. Andrews. The last time was the 2010 British Open, won by Louis Oosthuizen.

The field at Open Championships is filled partially through regional and final qualifying tournaments, and partially through exemptions from qualifying granted to tour pros who meet any of 31 criteria established by the R&A. Those criteria mostly have to do with previous performances in majors, money list rankings and world rankings. The R&A's championship Web site provides information on both qualifiers and exemptions:
