Nick Faldo made it two in row at the 1990 Masters, winning his second straight Green Jacket. And, just as in 1989, Faldo won the title in a playoff, this time over Raymond Floyd.
Floyd, 48 years old, seemed to have the tournament in his hands. Faldo was four strokes off the lead with six holes to play. But Floyd faltered late, with a bogey on the 71st hold, while Faldo reeled off three birdies in those six holes to catch Floyd and force the playoff.
Floyd wasn't the only old-timer enjoying a good week at The Masters. Fifty-year-old Jack Nicklaus finished in solo sixth, and 54-year-old Gary Player finished tied for 24th.
Another notable player at the 1990 Masters was Mike Donald. Donald opened with a 64, then carded an 82 in the second round (he still made the cut, finishing near the bottom of those who played the weekend). That 18-stroke difference between rounds is the second biggest difference between opening rounds in Masters history. In 1936, Craig Wood opened 88-67.
