Three former PGA Championship winners - Lee Trevino, Lanny Wadkins and Gary Player - battled for the 1984 title. But it was Trevino who came out on top.
In the final round, Trevino gradually put a little distance between himself and the other two, shooting 69 to Wadkins' 72 and Player's 71. Wadkins and Player wound up tied for second, four strokes short of Trevino's winning total.
The victory was Trevino's second at the PGA Championship, and his sixth and final win in a major. It also turned out to be the last win for Trevino on the PGA Tour, his 29th.
Trevino was 44 at the time of the 1984 PGA Championship, and Player was 48. Player never again finished in the Top 20 in a major, and played the PGA only one more time after this.
