Gene Sarazen won his second U.S. Open title, and fourth major championship title overall, at the 1932 U.S. Open. The victory came 10 years after Sarazen burst onto the golf scene by winning the 1922 U.S. Open and PGA Championship titles. The year 1932 was another double for him, as Sarazen won the 1932 British Open three weeks earlier.
Sarazen set all kinds of scoring records in the victory. His final-round score of 66 established a new 18-hole tournament record, and there wasn't a lower final round by a U.S. Open winner until Arnold Palmer closed with a 65 in 1960.
The 1932 U.S. Open was played at Fresh Meadow Country Club in Great Neck, N.Y., the club where Sarazen had earlier served as head pro for five years. The 1930 PGA Championship had also been played at Fresh Meadow, during Sarazen's tenure, but Sarazen lost to Tommy Armour in the championship match of that event.
Johnny Goodman was the low amateur, finishing 14th. A year later, Goodman won the 1933 U.S. Open - the last time an amateur won any of the professional majors.
Four-time major championship winner Jim Barnes played his final major here, finishing tied for 55th.
