Question: Who Won the First British Open Golf Tournament?
Answer: The winner of the first Open Championship was Willie Park Sr.
Park was one of eight professional golfers to tee it up at the inaugural British Open in 1860. Also in the field was Park's rival, Old Tom Morris, and Morris finished second, two strokes behind Park.
The rivalry between Park and Morris extended to their family members, as well. Morris Sr.'s son, Young Tom Morris, also won the British Open; so did Park Sr's son, Willie Park Jr., along with Park Sr.'s brother, Mungo Park.
Willie Park Sr. eventually won four British Opens in total. In addition to the first, Park Sr. also won in 1863, 1866 and 1875.
