Definition: A "swat tournament" (which is sometimes spelled Swat or SWAT) is another name for a scramble. You probably know how a scramble works: All members of a team tee off and select the best drive; all players play their second strokes from the location of that best drive. Then select the best of the second shots, and all play from there; and so on until the ball is holed.
Many golf tournament formats have multiple names, sometimes varying by region. "Swat" is not all that common as an alternate name for a scramble, but we've seen it used in some Midwestern and Southern states in the USA. See our definition of a scramble tournament for more.
