Scuffies

Definition: A "scuffie" is a side bet among a group of golfers that automatically pays off when one of the golfers makes a par on the same as his ball hit the cart path.

Scuffies are sometimes included as one of the side bets in the games of Garbage or Dots.

Groups playing scuffies should agree before the round that a) scuffies are in effect; and b) what the value - expressed monetarily or as points - of a scuffie is.

Some groups stipulate that to earn a scuffie, par must follow the ball hitting the cart path on the drive. Others say scuffies are earned if the ball hits the cart path on any stroke during the play of a hole, so long as par follows. (Obviously, that's something else your group must agree upon before the round starts.)

The name "scuffie" originates in the scuff marks often left on golf balls that hit the cart path.
