Definition: A "pinnie" is a golf side bet that is automatically awarded to a golfer who meets the requirements of a pinnie during a round of golf. What are those requirements? The definition of a pinnie can vary depending on who you ask, but the most common is this:
A pinnie is earned by a golfer who sinks a putt that is longer than the length of the flagstick.
An alternate version of the pinnie is this:
A pinnie is earned by a golfer who places his or her approach shot inside the length of the flagstick. In this version, golfers usually stipulate that the approach must be of a certain minimum length (say, 150 yards or 100 yards) to qualify.
Groups that play pinnies should stipulate before starting the round that pinnies are in effect; the specific version that is in use; and how much achieving a pinnie is worth (in either monetary value or points). Pinnies are often included in the game known as Garbage or Dots.
Depending on the specific version of pinnie being used, the term can be a synonym of "polee."
