To earn a Perfecto point, a golfer must:
- Put his drive in the fairway
- Put his approach shot on the green
- Take two putts for par or one putt for birdie
Do all three of those things, and you've scored the Perfecto.
The accomplishments that make up the Perfecto are the same things that make up Hogies, a k a Hogans. Hogies are often included in the games known as Garbage or Dots.
Perfecto has a couple variations that slightly differentiate it from Hogies, however. Many golfers play Perfecto only over the last three holes of each nine (holes 6-9 and 16-18), placing greater emphasis on finishing strong.
Also, in Perfecto it is common (though not universal) to double the points or bet amount when a golfer makes a Perfecto with a birdie rather than a par. So if the value of a Perfecto is set at, say 2 points or $2, you would earn 4 points or $4 by making the Perfecto with a birdie.
