Longest Yard

Definition: "Longest Yard" is the name of a golf betting game for groups of golfers (2, 3 or 4) that uses the hole yardages to determine points awarded for winning a hole.

It's simple: If you have the low score on a hole that is, for example, 380 yards long, then you win 380 points.

Holes that are halved do not award points. Longest Yard can be played as 1 vs. 1 (vs. 1 vs. 1, depending on the number of golfers in your group), or between 2-person sides.

Keep in mind that most golf courses (depending on the tees you are playing) range from 5,000 to 7,000 yards - which means there will be 5,000 to 7,000 points at stake. Unless you are a very high roller, you don't want to play Longest Yard for a dollar a point! At a penny a point, that's still $50 to $70 at stake.

An alternative, for golfers who want to keep the wagering risk to a minimum, is to set a value for the overall win - the golfer who earns the most points wins a predetermined, set amount from the other members of the group.
