Definition: "Golf cart" is the more common term in North America for the vehicles used on golf courses to transport golfers and their golf bags. "Golf cart" is sometimes used to refer to walking carts or push carts, which transport only the golf bag, but the term most often refers the vehicular carts.
Most golf carts used on courses are designed to carry two people plus their golf bags; they may be electric- or gas-powered, but electric-powered is more common.
Most golf courses charge an extra fee for the rental of a golf cart, although some courses include the cost in their normal greens fee. Not all courses provide the option of renting a golf cart, but some courses require them.
See our golf cart index for more information, including safety and etiquette guidelines, plus photos and information for golfers interested in purchasing a golf cart.
Also Known As: "Golf car" or "golf buggy" are synonyms; both terms are more common outside North America.
