And you'd be right! A "Five of Clubs" tournament is one in which each golfer has to choose only five of his or her clubs to use during the tournament.
That choice is almost always up to the golfers (in other words, the tournament organizers don't specify which clubs you are allowed to keep in your bag). One variation in the format revolved around how the putter is treated. Sometimes the putter doesn't count as one of your five clubs; in other words, you get your putter plus five clubs. However, in most cases when Five of Clubs is played, the putter does count as one of your five. Want to carry your putter? Then you only have four other clubs in the bag.
