Definition: When used in golf, the word "contour" refers to undulation in a putting green. Many putting greens are flat; many others contain swales, ridges, and other types of undulations that cause the golf ball to veer away from a straight line when putted (to "break," in other words). Such greens are said to have "contours" or to be "contoured."
"Contour" can apply to other parts of the course, too, but is usually used to describe putting greens.
Examples:
"The greens on this course have a lot of contour, so expect big breaking putts."
