Definition: "Claret Jug," uppercase, is the trophy awarded to the winner of the British Open. A lowercase claret jug is a vessel that contains the type of wine known as claret. The British Open trophy gets its name from the fact that the trophy was designed after claret jugs that were in style when the trophy was created.
