Collection Area

Definition: A "collection area" is a depression to the side of a green whose positioning, often combined with the contours of the green, result in many approach shots "collecting" in it. The collection area is always grassed and frequently mowed at fringe height. Portions of the green might slope towards to the collection area to funnel off-target shots away from the hole.
