Definition: A "ballmark tool" is a small, two-pronged tool, usually made of metal but also often made of hard plastic, that is used to repair ballmarks (also known as pitch marks) on the putting green. The tool is an essential piece of equipment that every golfer should carry in his or her golf bag.
In addition to the traditional two-pronged ballmark tool, some new versions have different looks, but if the gadget is designed to repair ballmarks then it is referred to as a "ballmark tool."
This tool is often misnamed as a "divot tool," but the proper term is ballmark tool (after all, it's used on ballmarks, not divots).
For instructions on using a ballmark tool to repair pitch marks, see the tutorial, "How to repair ballmarks."
