Definition: A small, flat object used to mark the position of a golf ball when the ball is lifted on the putting green. A ball marker is placed at the spot where the ball rests - the vast majority of golfers place the ball marker directly behind the ball - and the ball is lifted. When ready to play, the ball is replaced on the green and the ball marker lifted. Coins are very popular as ball markers, or golfers may purchase ball markers created specifically for this purpose.
