Nakashima is based in Stockton, Calif. Its titanium drivers, metal woods and utility clubs have generated a buzz among industry insiders since the boutique manufacturer was founded about a year ago by John Nakashima.
The company, Nakashima says, stands apart from its larger OEM brethren because of the tighter controls it can place on its manufacturing process.
"What I believe really separates Nakashima Golf from our competitors is our attention to detail in the following three criteria: performance, beauty and craftsmanship," Nakashima said. "As a small boutique studio, we believe that we are able to set higher standards than the larger equipment manufacturers can."
Nakashima explained the benefits inherent in a smaller foundry this way:
"One example is our 'True Loft and Face Angle System' on all our titanium drivers. Each head is carefully checked with a tolerance of 0.5 degree on loft and face angle, which gives Nakashima Golf drivers the tightest tolerances in the industry. Other large OEM golf company's products we have measured were off by as much as 2 degrees.
"That's very important when golfers demo a driver on the range and then go to the pro shop to purchase what they think is an identical driver. The driver that the golfer purchases may have a completely different loft and face angle from the one that he or she was hitting so well on the range. These specifications are absolutely critical to the outcome of how well the driver ultimately performs for the golfer."
Nakashima Golf's current line of products includes the Ti Driver, the NP-1 Fairway Metal Wood, and the NP-R Utility Metal.
