Ernie Els' victory at the 2012 British Open came at the expense of his good friend Adam Scott. Scott bogied the final four holes, while Els was shooting 68 and closing with a birdie on the 72nd hole. That combination was enough to give Els the 1-stroke victory over Scott.
The win was Els' second in the Open Championship and his fourth overall win in majors. It also counted as his 19th PGA Tour victory and 27th European Tour win.
