'The Greatest Game Ever Played': What's It About?
In the early 20th century, the sport of golf was dominated by British golfers, and had yet to take a firm hold among the general population of the United States. The game was viewed as elitist. At the 1913 U.S. Open, British greats Harry Vardon
and Ted Ray entered, and were the favorites to win. But another of the entrants was 20-year-old American amateur Francis Ouimet, who had worked as a caddie at the golf course where the tournament was being played. And for his own caddie, Ouimet employed a 10-year-old boy. The Greatest Game Ever Played
tells the story of Ouimet's journey at the 1913 U.S. Open, a journey that ended with a playoff victory that changed the face of golf.
