Valhalla Golf Club opened in 1986 about 20 miles east of Louisville, Ky. The course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, sits on 486 acres of undulating Kentucky terrain, the front nine a low-lying parkland setting and the back nine containing the signature No. 13 - a short par-4 with an approach to an island green - plus the well-known No. 18, a closing par-5 with two different avenues of approach to the horseshoe green.

The course has a strong relationship with the PGA of America, having been the site of PGA Championships, the Club Professionals Championship (CPC), the Senior PGA Championship, and in 2008, the Ryder Cup.

Nicklaus made some changes prior to the 2008 Ryder Cup, including adding some length. For the 2008 Ryder Cup, the course played to 7,496 yards and a par of 71. For members, it's a par-72 and tips out at 7,540 yards (member yardages are used herein).
