Pine Needles Golf Club is one of the classic courses of the Carolinas. Located in Southern Pines, N.C., Pine Needles was designed by the legendary architect Donald Ross. A restoration in the early 2000s led by architect John Fought sought to restore the course's greens to Ross' original designs, and lengthened the course in an attempt to restore the shot values originally created by Ross. Pine Needles has hosted the U.S. Women's Open, among other top tournaments.
Built on sandy soil, Pine Needles rolls through a landscape treed with maples, holly, azaleas, dogwood, blackjack oaks and loblolly pines. Sandy hills frame holes and wayward shots can land atop beds of pine straw off the fairways.
