Oakmont is regarded as one of the most challenging golf courses in the world. Its membership likes it that way - the USGA actually slows its greens down for the U.S. Open.
The photos in this gallery, shot by Christopher Hunt, were taken several years ago before a massive tree-removal project began at Oakmont. Nearly every tree on the interior of the course - almost all trees except around its perimeter - have since been removed. However, those trees were mostly aesthetic to the course, the vast majority rarely impacting play. So while most of the trees you see in these photos are gone, the strategy on each hole remains the same.
