"The last of the three-shot holes at Oakmont is an absolute bear. The 667-yard twelfth is long, narrow, and full of bunkers. Twenty sand pits populate the hole, most diagonally guarding the landing area for the tee shot and the left portion of the green. Accuracy will benefit the player, as most mortals concede that the green is unreachable in two and desire to remain in the left-to-right sloping fairway. Where the bunkers do not flank the fairway, one is likely to find a drainage ditch, and the treacherous green does not receive shots gracefully, sloping away from the player."
