Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., is one of the grande dames of the American golf landscape. Founded in 1916, the club's first head professional was the legendary Walter Hagen.
The club has two courses, the North Course and the South Course. The South Course is the one pictured in this gallery, and is the one that has been the site of U.S. Opens, PGA Championships, Ryder Cups, U.S. Senior Opens, and men's and women's U.S. Amateurs.
The South Course opened for play in 1918 and was designed by Donald Ross. Its nickname is "The Monster," because that's what Ben Hogan called it after winning the U.S. Open on it in 1951.
