About Golf "Best of 2003": Fairway woods

1. Sonartec SS-02

Sonartec SS-02 Fairway Woods
Sonartec is probably the most universally acclaimed maker of fairway woods in the golf industry today. The SS series debuted in 2002, and the SS-01 (shallow face) and SS-03 (deep face) woods came out that year. The SS-02 (mid-face) hit the market in 2003 and suits the widest range of golfers juuuuuuust right. Our testers were unable to find any negatives with this club. A wonderful piece of golf engineering.

2. Adams Redline

Adams Redline Fairway Woods
Adams means game improvement. Redline fairway woods mean titanium, tungsten perimeter weighting and the "upside-down" design that golfers have learned to love from the Adams Tight Lies family. Redline fairway woods are very forgiving and very attractive, and produce very good results.

3. TaylorMade V Steel

Great feel, very easy setup and great look at address, and very accurate are phrases you'll hear used to describe TaylorMade's V Steel series of fairway woods. The V Steel has also developed quite a reputation for ease of use off the fairway, but its likability off the tee doesn't reach the same level.

4. Wilson Deep Red II Distance

Wilson's Deep Red II Distance line is a little more forgiving than the Deep Red II Tour, which is what most recreational players want. Oh, and distance. Including that word in the title was not a misnomer. These low-profile clubs get the ball up and moving.

5. Callaway Great Big Bertha II

It's rare that any recreational player would go wrong in choosing a Callaway wood. "You know the name," Callaway says. "You love the fun and forgiveness." These stainless steel clubs deliver on the Big Bertha name and come in 11 different lofts.
