The Ping i20 series clubs focus on combining a measure of forgiveness with workability, "with the goal to make any golfer a more versatile and complete player," according to chairman and CEO John A. Solheim.
Perhaps the first thing golfers will notice is the matte-black finish on the woods and hybrids. Some other companies are going all-white recently; Ping goes the other direction here. The finish is non-glare.
Engineering targeting high launch angles runs through the Ping i20 series, while the driver also offers aerodynamic benefits. A brief look at each club in the Ping i20 series follows below and on following pages.
Ping i20 Driver
The 460cc head has tungsten weights in the sole to optimize MOI and center of gravity location, and an aerodynamically shaped crown to reduce drag and provide a boost in swing speed. The COG is positioned to promote less spin and a more boring trajectory.
The Ping i20 driver (and also the fairways and hybrids) comes with a choice of two stock shafts, Ping's TFC 707 series or a True Temper Project X Black. The Ping shaft is the heavier and stiffer of the two shafts, with less spin, and promotes a lower launch angle. The Project X Black shafts are lighter with mid-spin and a higher trajectory.
The driver comes in lofts of 8.5, 9.5 and 10.5 degrees. The MSRP in the USA is $385. pinggolf.com
