In November, 2008, a U.S. district judge granted Callaway's request for a permanent injunction barring Titleist from selling Pro V1s that fall within the scope of the disputed patents.
Titleist disagreed with that ruling, of course, and vowed to fight on. But the company also reassured consumers in various ways, including by passing on the news that new Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls were on the way in early 2009.
That time has arrived. Titleist is officially introducing the 2009 Pro V1 and 2009 Pro V1x balls at the 2009 PGA Merchandise Show in late January. The balls will be available at retail in mid-February, 2009. And the balls' design and manufacture fall outside the scope of the disputed patents, so golfers need not worry about the new balls being subject to court orders or findings.
