At the beginning of 2008, a USGA change took effect that allowed for drivers with interchangeable shafts to ruled conforming. One such club that benefited from that ruling was the Alpha C830.4 Plasma driver, which is now "legal" for competition.

Alpha drivers have always been very popular with the long-drive crowd, but in light of the USGA ruling earlier this year, the C830.4 Plasma is starting to show up on the tours. At a recent Champions Tour event, for example, three of the Top 10 finishers were playing this driver.

The shaft system is called "M-Fit Interchangeable Shaft Technology." A C830.4 Plasma Driver Set comes with three shafts of varying flex. Each shaft has a lightweight titanium shaft sleeve that is permanently attached onto the tip of the shaft. A shaft is fitted into the clubhead and fastened with a titanium end-screw using an Allen wrench.

Alpha Golf says that removing one shaft and replacing it with another should take less than two minutes.

The Alpha C830.4 Plasma Driver has an MSRP of $499. Visit www.alphagolf.com for more info.
