TaylorMade introduced FCT ("Flight Control Technology") with its initial R9 and R9 TP drivers in March 2009. The FCT tech gives the golfer the ability to change the face angle, loft, and lie angle of the driver by loosening a bolt in the bottom of the clubhead and rotating the head into a new position.

The R9 and R9 TP drivers came on the market priced at $500 and $600, respectively.

Now, TaylorMade is ready with the R9 460 driver, priced lower and geared for a wider variety of golfers. The R9 460 has a 460cc clubhead, more forgiveness, and a longer and lighter shaft to help golfers increase swing speed.

The FCT is still there, and can promote a side-to-side trajectory change of up to 40 yards (compared to 75 in the initial - and more expensive - R9 offerings).

Speaking of price, the R9 460 has a street price of $299 and becomes available at retail outlets on May 16, 2009. It is available in lofts of 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 and 11.5 for right-handers and 9.5 and 10.5 for lefties.

The stock shaft is a 45.75-inch Aldila RE*AX 60-gram tip-soft shaft, available in L, M, R, S and X flexes. An R9 460 TP version is also available, the difference being the stock shaft is a a Fujikura Motore F1 65 graphite shaft with a .335 tip. Visit www.taylormadegolf.com for more info.
